Capturing a large planet in a small empire that has a large treasury should yield a large share of their treasury. Capturing a newly founded planet shouldn't yield much if the empire is large and the treasure is huge. You think *YOU* have it tough when you can't get the car-seat in the right spot, or reach the rear-view mirrors? Now magnify that by 1000x, with the added bonus of accidentally suffocating to death when you absent-mindedly open the window because there's not enough room for your elbow. At the very least it should require a 'Refit' cost so that your dominant race can fit in the seats and have the right number of arms for the control systems. Mind you, it was also one of my favoured tactics to steal ships for future use - or even current use if I was also 'Telepathic' - and although it was, and is, one of my favorite tactics, I have to admit that it is one of the LEAST defensible things when looked at logically.

So if by 'loot' you mean, 'Capturing BC and/or technology' by non-linear means, then oh my yes - this is a necessity for a whole hoard of strategic styles - to the point it would shock me if it doesn't happen.
